Lake Clark Lodge

My husband and I spent five unforgettable nights at Lake Clark Lodge in July 2025, and it became the highlight of our Alaska trip. As a photographer, I wanted our final stop to be a place where we could slow down and photograph wildlife — somewhere peaceful, restorative, and surrounded by true wilderness. The lodge delivered all of that and more. Each day was planned around weather and opportunity, which made every outing feel personal and unhurried. We joined a small group of like-minded guests who shared the same pace, and even with a full lodge, we never felt crowded. Our fly-outs were exceptional — two days walking among the bears in Katmai Preserve and one unforgettable day in Katmai National Park that included Brooks Falls and time along the river photographing bears and eagles. Our guide was calm, knowledgeable, and deeply respectful of the wildlife. She read behaviors we would have missed and positioned us thoughtfully so encounters were safe and natural. One moment — a mother bear with three cubs passing peacefully nearby — will stay with me forever. The lodge itself felt like a beautifully restored mountain home: quiet, comfortable, and welcoming. Meals were outstanding, and the staff created an atmosphere that was warm without ever being intrusive. Between hiking, boating, photography, and the option to visit Dick Proenneke’s historic cabin, there was far more to do than we could fit into five days. From sunrise photography on the lake to evenings by the fire, Lake Clark Lodge gave us the perfect mix of comfort, wilderness, and connection. I'm a National Park fanatic, and was motivated to do whatever I could to check Lake Clark National Park off of my bucket list. That's what led me to Lake Clark Lodge... but what I was met with was so much more. The team at the lodge immediately made me and my dad feel welcome upon arrival, and we had a fantastic four days with the team, exploring the outer reaches of Alaska. In three days of excursions, my dad and I visited Brooks Falls in Katmai NP (a true bucket list trip), Dick Proenneke's Cabin in Lake Clark NP, and fished some of the tributaries to Six Mile Lake. On top of our excursions via seaplane, we also spent plenty of time by the fire at the lodge itself, eating delicious food and meeting fascinating strangers (now friends) from around the world. I would recommend Lake Clark Lodge to anyone looking for a true Alaskan adventure, and am confident that they'll have a fantastic time exploring the land with an amazing and committed team. (Also, I hope my 3-0 Cornhole record ends up in the record books at the lodge!)

Lake Clark Lodge is a grand former private wilderness estate built by a prominent Alaska family who still own it today, but have transitioned it into a luxury getaway for those who want to experience wild Alaska in style. Your first thought upon seeing the lodge is how the heck did they build this here? There are no roads in, so every single thing, from lumber to furniture to fine wine must be flown or barged in. Absolutely incredible what they have built. The lodge and setting are beautiful, the rooms simple but very comfortable and very well appointed, and the food is fantastic (they have two chefs, main and pastry). What makes it extra special is the staff and the owners. Everyone was professional, friendly, and happy to be there. This is a place that could easily be pretentious and snobby but it is anything but that. Rob (owner) and Anders (manager) are wonderful people and excellent hosts. You feel welcomed and appreciated. We arrived for their last week along with a few of their business partners and grown sons. Although we were not part of their group they quickly made us feel like part of the family. Our reason for being there was to get my wife up close and personal with the big coastal brown bears. After years of listening to bear stories from my fishing trips, she wanted to see them for herself. I told Anders the first night that I could not enjoy any fishing until Laura got her bear fix. The next morning we were flying to Brooks Falls in a beautifully restored de Havilland Beaver, flown by our excellent pilot Tor, for an unforgettable day of bear viewing. It was the end of season and there were not many people, so our guide, Jon, was able to walk us about a half mile down the river, surrounded on all sides by bears gorging on the salmon. Jon had previously worked at Brooks and knew most of the bear’s personalities. Incredible experience of a lifetime. My reward the following day was a pleasant day of trout and grayling fishing-just Laura, a guide and me. We finished our stay with a combination of fishing/bear watching. After a long day of adventures, whether it was fishing, bear watching or hiking, a wonderful new sauna looking out over the lake awaits you or a massage from Shelley or the crazy nice massage chair. We can’t say enough about the two fabulous chefs! Every meal, from fresh omelets and more at breakfast, the wonderful packed lunches sent on our adventures, the 5:30 cocktail hour hors d’oeuvres to the fabulous dinners (and oh my goodness, those desserts) were made to perfection! This is truly a one of a kind place and we highly recommend it. We went there for the bear adventure, but came away feeling like we had gained new friends. Thank you for everything! Carlton & Laura

Lake Clark Lodge Review (A Review from Amy and Justin) The Lodge Itself: Lake Clark Lodge is a truly special retreat, offering a cozy and welcoming atmosphere that makes it feel like a home away from home. The lodge is impeccably maintained and exudes a sense of warmth and comfort throughout. The common areas are inviting, with a fire on the deck at night and a cozy fire in the great room that adds to the lodge's charm. Each guest room is paired with a private bathroom located just across the hall. While the bathroom being outside the room requires a bit of extra effort, it’s still very much private, and given the remote nature of the lodge, it’s hardly an inconvenience. The rooms are clean, functional, and comfortable, and the overall cozy vibe of the lodge makes it a great place to relax after a day of outdoor adventures. Dining Experience: Dining at Lake Clark Lodge is a highlight of the stay. John and Levi prepare outstanding breakfasts and dinners, and each meal is a treat. Beyond the delicious food, the dining experience is elevated with an open bar and appetizers before dinner — a nice touch that sets the tone for a relaxed and enjoyable evening. The packed lunches for day trips are equally impressive, providing tasty and satisfying options for a full day of exploring. Whether you're winding down after a long day or starting your morning off right, the meals at the lodge are always exceptional. The Staff: The staff at Lake Clark Lodge is truly top-notch. The pilots, Spence and Tor, are not only very seasoned and friendly, but they also bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the lodge, making every flight feel safe and exciting. The guides are equally dedicated, and I have to give a special shout-out to Tiffany and Jon. Both are incredibly passionate about the brown bears, and their enthusiasm and knowledge really enhance the experience. If you're there to see the bears, these two are the guides you want. Jon also took me out for a day of fishing, which turned into an amazing “catching” adventure on the river — a highlight of the trip! The Lodge Management: Anders and Emily, the lodge managers, have done a phenomenal job putting together a team of skilled and passionate individuals. The lodge runs seamlessly, and it's clear that they are committed to providing a truly memorable experience. The warmth and attention to detail in every aspect of the operation really show, and it’s obvious that guest satisfaction is a top priority for them. A Bucket List Experience: For my wife and me, this trip was a dream come true. Walking among the brown bears at Brooks Falls was a bucket-list item for both of us. The experience of seeing these magnificent creatures up close and in their natural habitat was nothing short of awe-inspiring. We stayed for 5 nights, beginning September 3, 2025, and had the chance to enjoy three incredible flyouts during our stay. Lake Clark Lodge is truly a bucket list destination. I traveled there for 4 nights this summer with my husband and two teenage boys. We made memories that we will forever be grateful for! Everything from booking to the final day of the trip was a 10/10 experience. Booking with Paul was fantastic. He went above and beyond and was so kind and gracious to help us plan, even giving suggestions for the days in Alaska before we traveled to the lodge! The lodge was exceptional. Everything was so clean and comfortable, and the setting is stunningly peaceful and beautiful. The flights were out of this world. The food was delicious. I was honestly a little nervous about that part with teenage boys, but they loved trying new things and thought every meal was fantastic. Every single one of the staff members was amazing- guides, pilots, kitchen staff, hospitality, everyone. I can’t brag on them enough. The level of professionalism with the guides was like nothing we have ever experienced. We really noticed and appreciated that there was no smoking or swearing. They were patient with us and treated my boys like they were just as important as the adults. We caught some GREAT fish! Lake Clark Lodge will forever be one of our favorite places. We hope to come back and stay again in the future.

We just returned from an AMAZING trip to Alaska! Our stay at Lake Clark Lodge was absolutely a major highlight! First off, the incredible home you stay in is absolutely stunning -- its hard to believe you are out in remote Alaska staying at this lovely, charming and very comfortable home overlooking the point of Lake Clark. We did some beautiful hiking and amazing fishing in the rivers and on the lake. The bear watching was exceptional, what an experience!!! The guides (and pilots) are unbelievably skilled and knowledgeable -- and they truly enjoy what they do! What really made the whole experience extra special was the wonderful team that took such good care of us, and made us feel as if we were part of the "family." Everyone who works there was extremely friendly, talented and willing to help make your trip just what you were looking for. It is quite obvious that the entire team there LOVES their job!! The cocktail hour includes everyone -- guests and employees alike -- the whole team shows up to chat about the days adventure and just hang out and get to know one another. You don't feel like your just being "waited on" by staff, you feel like you belong there. The meals were delicious and the extra touches at the home ( luxury towels, robes, bedding, cushy reusable sandals, fresh cut wildflowers, gorgeous potted flowers all over the property) make it hard to believe you are out in the Alaskan Bush! And, a big bonus for us -- they have a wonderful wood burning sauna with a window facing the lake -- a perfect ending to our days! Lake Clark Lodge was a slice of heaven and was truly an exceptional experience!!!! Anders (the GM) and the entire team make it their mission to help you have the Alaskan experience you are looking for! We can't wait to come back and bring our boys with us next time!!!!

Lake Clark Lodge was by far our favorite stop on our Alaska Getaway. From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed and excited to be there. Lake Clark was truly a beautiful place. Anders and his team made our trip so memorable! We enjoyed the tailored itineraries, it made the trip feel like it was organized just for us. Tiffany, Jon, and Spence made our excursions so much fun. We LOVED the bear viewing. The accommodations were beautiful and spotless. So many places to gather and having a fire each nice was such a treat. We enjoyed hearing all about the history of the lodge and the owner. They kept us well fed with a creative menu for each meal, in which everyone was delicious. We will certainly be back next time we visit Alaska

My husband & I spent 4 nights at Lake Clark Lodge in August and truly had the trip of a lifetime. The rooms are on the small side but they are clean and nicely furnished. Because there are so many things to do at the lodge you are rarely in the room except to sleep. If I could give the Service and Location 100 stars I would. Everyone at the lodge goes out of their way to make sure you are comfortable and having incredible experiences. Your plan every day is 'made-to-order' for you. A big shout out to Tiffany and Anders for being wonderful guides - loved the time spent with you. Our pilot Craig certainly added to the fun. The food was delicious. The scenery everywhere you look is gorgeous. I could go on and on about the amazing experiences (bear-watching? oh my!) Bottom line: We'd love to go back!!
